The Glitter Mystery That Is Captivating the Internet

Some mysteries are so bizarre and confusing that they push their way into your daily life and you find yourself thinking “will I ever know the answer to this? There has to be an answer. I’ll just Google it one more time”. This is one of those mysteries.

In December 2018 The New York Times published an article titled “What is Glitter?”. The article discusses the human fascination with glitter, how it’s become a part of our Christmas culture, and also talks about leading glitter manufacturer, Glitterex. This is where the first mystery element starts.

New York Times Journalist Caity Weaver speaks with Babu Shetty, the CEO and President of Glitterex over the phone. Shetty talks about how Glitterex’s glitter making technology is some of the most advanced in the world, and very few people truly understand the scientific knowledge required to make glitter. Intrigued, Caity wonders whether she would be able to see the glitter being made. Mr. Shetty’s answer to this is a firm no — Not even Glitterex’s clients get to see how the glitter is made! But Caity does get an invite to the factory where the glitter is made, and a guide called Ms. Dyer.

This air of secrecy surrounding Glitterex’s operations continued when Caity asked whether Ms. Dyer could divulge which industry served as Glitterex’s biggest market. She was…
